Public and Government Affairs
Public and Government Affairs supports the University of Oregon’s teaching, research, and community service missions through coordinated communication efforts, advocacy, and the building of relationships with individuals, communities, public institutions, and businesses.
With experts in media relations, publications, web services, government relations, community connections, and commercial partnerships, Public and Government Affairs enhances and preserves the university’s public image, highlights the university’s achievements and milestones, motivates supporters to act on behalf of the university, promotes university initiatives with state, local, and federal governments, and fosters mutually supportive relations between the university and the communities it serves.
The work units within Public and Government Affairs are:
- The Office of Communications serves the university with experts in media relations, graphic design, editing, and web communications. Professionals in Design and Editing Services, Web Communications, and Media Relations collaborate on production of UO publications, management of the university's overall online strategy, and the delivery of news and information about the University of Oregon.
- Development Communications supports private fund-raising efforts at the UO with a range of editorial and design assistance and produces Oregon Outlook, a quarterly newsletter for university donors.
- Government and Community Relations coordinates the University of Oregon’s legislative and advocacy efforts at the federal, state, and local levels.
- KWAX-FM is the UO’s 24-hour classical music radio station with broadcasts now online and available globally.
- Office of Marketing and Brand Management supports the values and mission of the University of Oregon by managing the commercial use of its name and identifying symbols while also overseeing advertising and brand management for the University of Oregon. In addition to handling advertising, the office protects university images, preserves legal rights and ownership of its logos, promotes and markets the university, and generates revenue by licensing the use of university trademarks.
- Oregon Quarterly is the university’s award-winning magazine, founded in 1919. The magazine features strong graphic presentations and thought-provoking stories about the University of Oregon and the Northwest.
